REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KWARA STATE, DR. ABUBAKAR BUKOLA SARAKI ON THE OCCASION OF THE INAUGURATION OF MUSTAPHA AKANBI FOUNDATION ON 12TH SEPTEMBER 2006 AT BANQUET HALL, KWARA HOTEL, ILORIN.

His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, President, Commander-in-Chief, Federal Republic of Nigeria,
Chief Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
Members of the Federal and State legislatures,
Host Royal Father, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari CFR,
All other protocols observed.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the inauguration of Mustapha Akanbi Foundation. One of the challenges of the Nigeria Project is how to improve the general well being of our citizens with a view to making our people the pride of the black race and our country, the giant of Africa and the showpiece of the continent.

In several countries such as the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, France, Australia and Germany to mention a few, it is not government alone that is responsible for reforming and transforming their societies. Rather the private Sector, Public-spirited individuals and Foundations have made invaluable contributions to the socio-economic growth and development of these Nations. I therefore call on all men and women of goodwill from Kwara State to follow the examples of these countries and compliment government’s efforts in making Kwara State an economically viable and vibrant State.

In line with the above objectives of providing positive changes to enhance socio-economic growth, sustainable development and poverty alleviation, the Kwara State Government has already embarked upon provision of water supply in urban and rural areas, construction and rehabilitation of urban and rural roads, provision of health care facilities, rehabilitation of schools and construction of classrooms, provision of housing facilities, large scale commercial farming, creation of conducive industrial atmosphere, rural electrification and enhancement of Judicial services. We are therefore happy that the headquarters of this Foundation is in Ilorin, Kwara State; a state of harmony and peace and the gateway between the Northern and Southern parts of the country. There is no doubt that this foundation will play a very useful role in the development of the State.

Hon. Justice Akanbi has made his mark in the annals of this country and his name has been documented on the positive side of history as a legal luminary, upright jurist, incorruptible judge and the first Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission.

I wish to congratulate Hon. Justice Mustapha Akanbi, the Board of Trustees, the Advisory Board, the Planning Committee and all those involved in the establishment and the running of the MAF. I wish the Foundation a rewarding and resounding success.

I seize this opportunity to welcome you all to Kwara Sate. I wish you a pleasant stay and a successful inauguration.
